CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that Delhi’s Mundka Sports Varsity will be completed in 3 years. He disclosed this at the inauguration of the indoor swimming pool at Delhi Sports School in Civil Lines. They will set up the sports university in Mundka, covering 80 acres of land. The new university promises training to 2500 students across 20 Olympic sports. They say it will be functional within 3 years.

Establishment of Delhi Sports School and Mundka Sports Varsity

They established the Delhi Sports School in 2023. It houses 172 students training in 10 Olympic sports. These include weightlifting, boxing,etc. They will arrange training in up to 20 Olympic sports. This will happen upon the completion of the university at Mundka. At present, the arrangement in Mundka offers the office of the university.

Focus on the Development of Talent

“The youth of our villages possess abundant talent. So far, we have not observed any encouragement in this aspect,” stated Kejriwal. He emphasised the need for a push in this aspect. Supporting this talent will enable us to emerge victorious in any competition. He stated his big vision behind the establishment of Delhi Sports University. The university plans on enrolling 2500 students. They built it on approximately 80 acres of land in Mundka. It is estimated to be completed in about three years. As of now, they have inaugurated the Delhi Sports School. It will provide training in 10 Olympic sports.

Legislative Framework

The Delhi Legislative Assembly passed an Act to establish the Delhi Sports University in 2020. Authorities recognised it as a state university, establishing it in 2023. Ms. Karnam Malleswari is the vice chancellor of this prestigious university. She is the first female Olympic medalist in India.

Overview of the Delhi Sports School

The recently inaugurated Delhi Sports School is fully residential. Located in Sham Nath Marg in Civil Lines, North Delhi, the school serves as a catalyst for identifying and nurturing talent from a young age. Recognised as one of the Schools of Specialised Excellence, it offers classes from grades 6 to 12 and operates under the Delhi Board of School Education. With a specialised sports-centric curriculum, it strives to enhance the overall educational journey.

Anticipation of India’s success in Olympic sports

“The nation aspires for India to clinch all the medals across these 20 Olympic sports. The children have undergone rigorous testing. Out of over 10,000 applicants, only 170 children have been chosen. We are committed to supporting them,” stated the Chief Minister.
