On Thursdays, Google and Apple launched the Exposure Notification API. The API can be used for tracking Coronavirus cases through contact tracing apps. However, the API / contact tracing tool does not work with the Aarogya Setu App launched by the Indian Government and therefore has been proven incompatible with India’s Aarogya Setu Application.
It has been noted that India’s Aarogya Setu uses the device’s location data to track and trace the persons infected with the Covid-19 infection.
However, this is being termed as the key reason why Google and Apple’s Exposure Notification API tool does not work with the Indian Aarogya Setu Application.
The Exposure and Notification API tool uses solely mobile Bluetooth function to trace the coronavirus cases. As per the companies, it was the foremost goal of both companies to prevent the government from using the system for compilation of data on citizens. The API system does not use or store GPS location data and is designed to use the only mobile Bluetooth function to track and trace Coronavirus cases. The Exposure and Notification API forbids access to the use of the device location over pic act related concerns.
When two individuals are in a close location, the API will notify them through the anonymous identifier signal. If a person tests positive for the Coronavirus, the API with the help of the device will share a list of people the infected person cams in contact with and will alert them. It was further asserted by the companies that the API’s identification key will not include any location data.
Furthermore, the guidelines affirmed that the Apple and Google Exposure and Notification API will not share any data unless the user has been identified as Coronavirus positive or the user has come closer to a Coronavirus infected person.
