DU SOL

New Delhi: The Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) has released a set of FAQs. This has been done regarding the open book examinations and internal assessments.

The FAQs answer a lot of questions from the students. Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, conducting exams was seen as a risky proposition. When the Delhi University announced open book examinations for the students of the third year, a lot of confusion rose among many students. Similarly, the University had also announced the promotion of intermediate year students based on internal assessment and previous years’ marks.

The FAQ has made clear the difference between Open Book Examination and Internal assessment. It says that the open book exam is meant for the students of the third year or IV semester students of UG and PG courses of SOL. Whereas, the internal assessment is meant for the students of I, II semester students, and 2nd-year students of UG courses. It also applies to the students of II semester PG courses.

The FAQ also answers as to what will happen to those students who were promoted to the 3rd year from 2nd but fail in the 3rd year. It says that those who are promoted to the 3rd year and the failed students of the 3rd year, both have to appear in the Open Book Examination with their Essential Repeat (if any).

The question about the failed students of 1st year as well as 2nd year was also addressed by the SOL. These students have to appear in the Open Book Examinations. The date of the examination will be confirmed by the date sheet for this purpose.

The fresh I and II semester UG course students will have to appear for Assignment Based Evaluation. This Assignment Based Evaluation will be different for I semester and II semester students.

The SOL also said that those 1st-year students promoted to 2nd year also have to give Assignment Based Evaluation. The schedule for uploading of question papers by SOL and the consequent uploading of answer sheets by the students for this purpose will be published shortly.

In cases where there is Essential Repeat (ER) of 1 year promoted to 2nd-year students of SOL, the student will be required to appear only for ABE. Their 1st year ER papers will be carry forwarded to the next year, meaning they will appear for it in the coming year.
