Physical classes in many colleges and schools restarted today, i.e. 1st February 2022. Hence, it has been almost three weeks since the shutdown due to increasing omicron cases. But, most of the colleges and schools opened to scarce attendance. This also happened in October 2021 when educational institutions opened after a long lockdown.

Mumbai opens physical classes in hybrid mode:

Sobhana Vasudevan, the principal of R A Podar College in Matunga said that they have started with the hybrid mode of classes. Hence, a mixture of both online classes and physical classes is going on. But, as per their expectations, not enough students came to attend offline classes after the shutdown. The educational institutions in Mumbai had reopened in October 2021 after an 18-week long shutdown. But, a little while after the phased reopening omicron cases started to rise.

Mumbai colleges are looking for the vaccination certificates of their students. Hence, as per them, a lot of students who are fully vaccinated are yet refusing to attend physical classes. So, unless the state government makes physical classes mandatory, no student could be forced to attend. Thus, hybrid mode and poor attendance is the only option left now.

Which states reopened physical classes from today?

Maharashtra has reopened educational institutions with major cities like Mumbai and Pune working in full swing. Thus, in Pune classes have restarted from class 1 onwards and colleges are running as per schedule. Also, Madhya Pradesh has reopened schools for Class 1 to 12th at 50 percent occupancy. Other cities that have reopened for offline classes from today include Jharkhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
