On Thursday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) extended the timeline for online applications, which also includes renewals, for scholarships. This includes scholarships for regular and full-time students under various schemes for the academic year 2020-21.
The timeline which has been extended, as per the latest notification, includes the following four schemes:-
- Indira Gandhi PG Scholarship for Single Girl Child (SGC),
- PG Scholarship for University Rank Holder candidate (URH),
- Ishan Uday Special scheme for North Eastern Region (NER) and
- PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST candidates (PGSPROF)
The guidelines for each of these schemes can be accessed at the ‘National Scholarships Portal’.
Those students who are admitted to the recognized institutions and are also eligible for the scholarship as per the guidelines issued on the portal may submit their application.
Applications for the same may be submitted through the National Scholarship Portal on the official website – i.e., https://scholarships.gov.in/
The portal has been open since 1 September 2020 and will remain open for the fresh applications in addition to even renewals. This has been indicated on the extended timeline notification. The last date for online application for the scholarship by the students will be 20 January 2021. The closing date for verification of the applications from the institutions of the students including re-submission of those applications which were defective is 5 February 2021.
Students are duly advised to fill and submit their applications well in time. UGC has advised the same so that their application can be verified from their respective educational institutions within the prescribed time limits.

UGC has advised the eligible institutions that they should verify the applications of their students. Institutions have been advised to verify the applications immediately after receiving them on the portal.

If all the institutes verify the applications as early as 31 January 2021 then it would, additionally, be in the favor of the students as any error or defective application can be corrected in due time.
