IIT Bombay 60th Convocation: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay awards degrees to more than 250 students at the interim session on the convocation day. Moreover, this event of the interim session of IIT Bombay was the first to be conducted in-person mode. Due to the pandemic, the physical mode event was not possible for two years.

During the IIT Bombay 60th Convocation, a total of 284 degrees were awarded to students. According to the institution, the degrees include:

  • 189 Ph.D 
  • 20 Dual degrees that are 10 Mtech + Ph.D. and 10 MSc + Ph.D.
  • 29 BTech
  • 10 MTech
  • 2 BDes
  • Two MDes
  • 2 Phil
  • 6 MSc and 5 MS by research
  • 6 Dual degrees that are BTech + Mtech
  • 7 PGDIIT
  • 5 E-MBA degrees 

Further, the students belonging from August 2021 to January 202 were awarded by the institution. Because these degrees were considered to be granted before the 60th Convocation. Subsequently, students filled all the requirements and requested the degrees. And, finally, at the 60th convocation event, students conferred with degrees.

Who Headed The IIT Bombay 60th Convocation? 

The event was headed by Dr. Krishna M Ella, who is Managing Director and Chairman of Bharat BioTech and also the inventor of Covaxin. In addition, he is the Padma Bhusan award holder and presided as Chief Guest. Other personalities who were present there includes- Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Bombay; Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay. 

During the function, Dr. Krishna Ella asserted the importance of clinical research. And, instructed, “To be an innovator and not copy, begin with a start-up. Additionally, focus on being a lifelong seeker, observer and have passion for solving societal problems.”

On the other hand, while congratulating students, the Director of IIT Bombay said, “This is the first physical program on the campus since 2020. In a Convocation event, I’m glad to watch the sea of joy among the graduated students and their families. I am proud of graduates and sure they will do their best in solving problems related to society.
