Delhi University has begun The registration process. To assure a ‘smooth experience’ for students This year, the university has initiated various changes in the admission process. Among crucial changes, the university has concluded to hold the entire admission process online.
1. The university has decided
Not to deduct marks on changing streams:
there is always mark deduction on changing streams. But this year the varsity has decided to withdraw the policy of deducting 5 percent marks for students who changed their stream to apply for BA courses. Shobha Bagai clarified that The principle was based on the belief that science students score more than humanities and would put up with a major fragment of seats in BA programs which are meant for humanities students. Nonetheless, now that all inspections are going interdisciplinary, the law does not hold any ground. We also wish to make the entire admission procedure smooth. Thus, we have proposed colleges to not deduct any marks, most of the colleges have approved this.
2. There will be Single form for all colleges:
There will be a Single form for all colleges as the university had formulated it a ‘single form’ admissions. This means that students will not have to restrict their choices by choosing a particular course or college. Every student who enrolls with Delhi University will be deemed for all courses and colleges, based on their merit, Bagai informed. Students can still fill in the top five choices, it will be used while allotting colleges or courses.
3. There will be no trials for ECA this year:
The students who expect to take admission to music courses have to upload their videos which will be accessed by a panel, instead of appearing for a trial. This time admissions to ECA will be permitted to NCC and NSS followers only. Those who used to take admission in the sports quota will be selected based on exams and awards etc instead of a trial. The supernumerary seats, however, remain intact for ECA.
4. Document verification:
Since the admission procedure is being conducted online, so will be the document verification process. Interested Students, like last year, will have to upload their patents online. The dean admissions told that the university has asked teaching boards across India to supply online links to the mark sheets of students for verification and some of the boards have already done the same. A related collaboration was done last year with CBSE and is foreseen to be continued this year too. Nonetheless, in the ultimate leg of admissions, chosen students will have to arise for physical document confirmation too.

5.Webinar to replace open house:
University used to hold open house programs where the officials used to resolve queries of students and parents. Now, the same will be replaced by webinars. The university is expected to start its first webinar in the coming week. While initial webinars will be on the registration process, several doubt resolution sessions related to the best of four, admissions, cut-off, how to chose the course, or college among others will be resolved later in August as the admissions process and merit-lists are expected by the second week of August.
6. The varsity has also introduced two new courses in the postgraduate level —
MSc Biophysics and Masters in Journalism.
