The University of Delhi has released the admission forms for the academic year 2020-21. The University has taken the admission process online and students from all over the country are registering themselves for the admission process. To ease the online process and to help students during the process the University trained the students to volunteer during the admission process.
The University of Delhi trained 22 student volunteers in the last few months to deal with the queries of students arising during the admission process. Sparsh Singh a student at the University of Delhi is one of the 22 students who volunteered for the first responders for the admission process shared his experience. He says he wakes up early in the morning every day and takes his seat in front of the laptop every day at 10 AM. He receives queries from all over the country related to the Delhi University admission 2020.
The 22 students from Delhi University have volunteered themselves to serve as a help desk to students taking admission in Delhi University. To make it convenient for the volunteers, the University has shifted the help desk from the conference centers on campus to their homes. The volunteer’s team daily answer to 250+ calls and several hundreds of email queries from students and their guardians.
Sparsh Singh told that every college and department of Delhi University was asked to send the names of the students who would be ready to volunteer. Sparsh Singh is a BTech student of Delhi University’s Central Institute of Education. He asserted that he sent his application to apply for the volunteering work, he was interviewed by the University’s official online. The interview round was to confirm whether the students willing to volunteer were aware of the admission process or not.
In May, the student volunteers were instructed and trained by the University officials of the admission council and the faculty members to deal with different types of queries. Admission Branch Head Shobha Begai said that they had regular training sessions for the volunteers to make them aware of the online admission process. They also made the volunteers clear with the possible doubts arising during the admission process. She asserted due to coronavirus pandemic the volunteers will not be coming to the University so it was necessary to train them in advance with all the requisite information.
Sparsh Singh further includes that the University officials asked them to go through the last year’s bulletin of information. Also, they attended several meetings and presentations from different departments of the University. The presentations were also made by the departments dealing with sports and ECA.
Dr. Suman Kumar, a member of the admission branch included that student volunteers are connected to WhatsApp. The numbers of four volunteers have been shared on the web who further forwards the queries to others. If the students receive difficult questions, they are advised to reach the admission branch which further helps the volunteers in the real-time.
