A complaint by Delhi University academic council and members of Indian national teachers congress have been submitted to DU vice-chancellor and UGC Chairman against the principal of Zakir Husain evening college. Masroor Ahmad Beg has been accused of plagiarizing a number of papers. The complaint claims that the Zakir Husain evening college principle has copied the work of Sukhadeo Thorat, a prominent economist, and former UGC Chairperson. As for the allegations, Dr. Masoor Abmad has copied the work of Sukhadeo Thorat to get promoted to his present designation.
According to the UGC guidelines, for the nomination of the post of principal, a minimum of 400 API scores is required. To meet the eligibility criteria Dr. Masoor Ahmad altered the already established work, duplicated fully published manuscripts of authors without giving them the recognition and credit.
The complaint was sent on June 20 which was signed by several existing and retired executive and academic council members. The letter alleged that the Zakir Husain Evening College principal plagiarized the work and attained the position in a fraudulent manner.
The letter included that in 2015 Sukhadeo Thorat in co-authorization with Mashroor Ahmad published his work in the social inclusion studies journal. The letter further claimed that Zakir Husain Evening College Principal in 2018 copied the work and titled it as a comparative analysis of poverty of Indian minorities with respect to the majority.
The authentication and confirmation of the above claim were further approved by Balram Pani, the Dean of colleges Delhi University. He further told that the University of looking into the matter and will take the necessary action into it.
Delhi University’s academic council member Naveen Gaur wrote a separate letter on Monday to the UGC which says that DU should form a department academic integral committee and institutional academic integrity council to further look into the matter. To prevent the crime of plagiarism the University will constitute a committee.
