YOGA FROM HOME: GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS’ TEACHERS AND STUDENTS’ TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
NATIONAL YOGA OLYMPIAD 2020 TO BE CONDUCTED SOON
Teachers and other staff members of schools are uploading short videos in which they are doing various yoga asanas daily and in asked the students to do the same and send on their respective class Whatsapp groups.
The Punjab Education Board’s (sports authority) has instructed all its students to celebrate the International Yoga Day on 21st June. All of them are suggested to perform various yoga asanas with their family while staying inside.
To encourage students to stay fit and active, authorities are uploading tapes connected to various asanas daily and have asked pupils to send videos or images of them performing the poses on their schools’ WhatsApp groups.

On Thursday, a two-minute duration video was uploaded on the activities school education Punjab Facebook official page in which 12 asanas, including Virabhadrasana -I, Virabhadrasana-II, Virabhadrasana-III, Utthita Hasta, Padangusthasana, Dandayamana Janu Sirsasana, Trikonasana-III, Bharmanasana, Vasisthasana, Eka Pada Bakasana, Shirshasana, Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Hand Stand) and Urdhva Upavistha Konasana were executed.
The yoga rounds were begun daily by the board under the Fit India Mission with the goal to help pupils stay fit and adopt an endurable and active lifestyle at a tender age.
A student of class 12 uploaded a video and said he is constantly doing yoga asanas from the past one year and he can now feel more energetic and refreshed. Also, regular yoga exercise has greatly helped to boost immunity.
District pedagogy officer (secondary), Swaranjit Kaur, asserted, the state schooling board’s enterprise has encouraged young students to take maintenance of their health and accomplish yoga asanas at home. We have obtained great reactions for online classes and videos shared on the Facebook page have enabled students and educators to stay fit and active which is necessary during this COVID 19 times.

Ajit Pal Singh, district-level in-charge (sports), said, We have accepted a great response from students as most of them are practicing the asanas on a daily basis. I am collecting 40 to 50 videos and pictures from students daily which are distributed with the board’s sports branch.”
CBSE directed its affiliated students to take part in the national level online yoga quiz challenge.
The NCERT is governing an online national quiz event on yoga on the topic “Yoga for health and harmony”.
The quiz will be available for one month, starting from June 21, and will close on July 20. This online quiz competition will provide elasticity to pupils to acknowledge at their own comfort.
Students of Classes 6 to 12 are capable to participate in the quiz which will be based on the NCERT syllabus formulated for yoga for upper primary and secondary classes.

An online contest for posting three-minute videos on yoga poses is being regulated on the My Gov platform by the Ministry of AYUSH.
The last date for submission of admissions is June 21. The board has ordered schools to enable students to contribute to online competitions and post videos/photos of online yoga lessons on the ASAR (Affiliated Schools Activity Report) app accessible on Playstore for Android Phones.
