The Ministry of Education (MOE) is contemplating administering pending editions of JEE-Main 2021, the engineering entrance exam in July and August. While NEET, the medical entrance examination can be shifted to September, as per the sources.

However, a final decision in this concern is yet to be taken and the Ministry is in the function of reviewing the coronavirus situation across states and UTs.

A source said that the pending editions of JEE-Mains 2021 are liable to be conducted either at the end of July or August with a fortnight’s gap between the 2 exams. NEET is expected to be pushed to September.

From the recent academic session, JEE-Main 2021 is being performed 4 times a year to provide flexibility to candidates and a chance to improve their scores. The 1st phase in February was followed by the 2nd phase in March, while the next phases were planned for April and May. But those were postponed after a sudden rise in the number of COVID-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic in the nation.

The JEE-Advanced examination, which is administered for admission to the prestigious National Institutes of Technology (NIT) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) was also postponed. The exam was planned for July 3. While no further decision was taken on NEET-UG which is planned for August. The registration for the NEET exam, which was supposed to begin on May 1, was kept in abeyance.

The ministry is also yet to agree on the future of the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET). Earlier this month, the CBSE canceled class 12 board examinations because of the coronavirus pandemic. CBSE has announced a marks tabulation policy. Following the same path, the CISCE and several state boards also canceled the board examinations.
