The government of India is planning to reopen schools all over the country after 15th August. Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry told that schools in India may reopen after 15th August and the reopening of schools will depend on the situation of the Coronavirus crisis prevailing in the country. Schools and Colleges all over India are closed even before the nationwide lockdown was imposed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The schools and colleges are shut since March 16.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry will decide when and how the schools will be reopened in India. The HRD ministry will take a decision according to the guidelines of the Union Home Ministry and the Health Ministry.

According to the sources in the HRD Ministry, the safety of students is paramount and the Ministry will take a decision keeping in mind the safety of the students.

Schools have chosen the online mode as an alternative to conduct classes during the pandemic. Online classes are being conducted all over the country and several schools have opted for this method. Online classes and online mode of teaching is one of the aspect government has been promoting amid the lockdown

In an interview, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that schools will reopen only when the situation allows them to send students out of their homes. The reopening of schools will take place when the situation will become stable. According to the HRD Ministry from 1st July to 15th July remaining board exams for students will be conducted and schools will reopen after that. When the question of how the exams will be conducted when the coronavirus cases will be on its peak in July, the HRD Minister said that its hard to predict what will be the situation in July. The HRD Ministry will follow the decision and guidelines of the Home Ministry and Health Ministry. The safety of the students will be given at most priority.

School Education Secretary Anita Karwal while speaking about the reopening of schools said that Coronavirus pandemic has made all of us emphasize the quality of digital education. She asserted that right now we are trying to reallocate the learning procedure, the instructional procedure, pedagogy and the manner in which students will be called to the schools and classes will begin. She said that they are working on how to reopen the schools and planning strategies for what all will be the changes for the teachers and students. The entry and exit points are also being designed and giving adequate importance.

Another most important area for focusing attention is improving the quality of online education which was postponed before the pandemic spread across the country. She said whenever we bring in online education, it has to be of the greatest quality. We must try to emphasize on bringing ideas so that we bring in something which is committing, interacting, and hold enough potential to catch stakeholders’ attention.
