The future of 12 government-aided DU colleges remains uncertain. These colleges are facing several irregularities and delays in salaries. Hence, the University Grants Commission (UGC) is being asked to take over these 12 government-aided DU colleges. Also, the term of governing council in 28 colleges has ended but the body is not suggesting member names.

Teachers retaliate against the government-aided DU colleges:

There has always been a tussle between the Delhi government and DU teachers. Hence, teachers highlight that the grants to the 12 fully government aided DU colleges are not given at all. Also, they added that the grant is very less. Thus, the University Grants Commission (UGC) should intervene and provide justice.

Rajib Ray the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) President raised the issue to UGC. Hence, he wants to end the constant crisis regarding the teacher’s salaries and other funds in these 12 government-aided DU colleges. So, Ray even met the UGC Secretary Professor Rajnish Jain, and other officials in this regard. Also, these Delhi University colleges demanding UGC’s takeover include:

  • Bhimrao Ambedkar College
  • Maharaja Agrasen College
  • Maharishi Valmiki College
  • Indira Gandhi Sports College
  • Aditi Mahavidyalaya
  • Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College
  • Keshav Mahavidyalaya
  • Sister Nivedita
  • Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Science

Tenure of the 28 government-aided DU colleges end:

DUTA highlighted that the tenure of 28 government-aided colleges ended on September 13. Hence, the problem is not limited to 12 colleges only. Also, out of these 28 colleges, 12 are completely funded by the Delhi government and the other 16 are given 5% aid from the government. DUTA demands that the government should ask the DU VC regarding an extension to its governing bodies.
