Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) have held hands together in offering 500 free online courses for the students and professionals who are working. These free online courses will be offered on the SWAYAM platform.
A joint initiative of IITs and IIsc, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning, NPTEL, has opened the enrollments procedure for online certification courses across the nation.
Although as per the reports, these courses are being offered free of cost, there will be a nominal fee for the in-person proctored exam for the certification. However, this certification is optional.
Following are some of the popular courses being offered on SWAYAM:
Data Structures and Algorithms using Python,
Basic Electrical Circuits,
Health Research Fundamentals and
The course structure will involve the candidates to
watch online videos,
submit assignments on weekly basis and
register for an in-person final exam.
As per the reports available, more than 1.2 crore learners have already joined NPTEL Courses on the SWAYAM platform till now.
Coordinator SWAYAM-NPTEL-IIT Madras, Andrew Thangaraj, said that the NPTEL has initiated the idea of ‘Domain Certification’ in order to streamline the efforts of learners and to guide them to obtain expertise in an area. A domain comprises elective and a set of core NPTEL Courses. Those learners who will complete a domain will get a domain certificate, informed Thangaraj.
Co-ordinator, SWAYAM-NPTEL-IIT Madras, Prathap Haridoss, shared that NPTEL has 49 industry partners. These partners provide career guidance to the learners and contribute through live sessions on various technologies.
More than 150 sessions have been conducted by the NPTEL by far, informed Haridoss.
Currently, SWAYAM-NPTEL works with more than 4000 colleges. These colleges are from engineering, arts, commerce, science, and management disciplines across India.
