An Artificial Intelligence skill course will be introduced by the Kendriya Vidyalaya in schools. This course will be available for the coming academic session 2020-21 for the students of class 6 to 11. According to the official circular, these courses will be taught for a duration of 12 hours in the entire session.
The KVs will select two teachers from their school before the course starts. These teachers will get trained for the artificial intelligence skill course. A total of 100 KVs have been selected for the introduction of AI. This implies that around 200 teachers will get training on the subject.
The initial training will be held by trainers from the Zonal Institute of Education and Training (ZIETs). After this, these 198 teachers will be further trained by representatives of Intel. They will conduct online training for teachers of class 8.
The KVs will have to register with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) before June 30 to participate. The CBSE line of curriculum is to be followed. CBSE had announced that it will launch many new courses including the AI in the coming session for classes 6 to 9. This was announced in April.
Design thinking and Physical Activity Trainer skill courses have also been launched along with AI. The Board offers 17 skill subjects at the secondary level and at the senior secondary level, 38 subjects, apart from these new programs.
CBSE had said that mainstreaming all forms of learning and skills will integrate hands-on skilling components along with theoretical knowledge, attitudes, and mindsets. When these courses were announced, the CBSE also said that it will help in the integration of soft skills which is required for occupations. These skills are necessary for the students to be able to take on and excel in a dynamic world.
The CBSE is not charging any registration fees for affiliation of AI skill course in Class 8.
