ABVP at DU condemns SFI inflicted torture on Siddharth

The Delhi University unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against the Student Federation of India (SFI) on March 12, 2024. It was over the alleged torture of Siddharth. Siddharth was a veterinary student at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Wayanad, Kerala. On February 18, he was found dead in the university hostel bathroom. They named the protest ‘SFI Stop Killing Students’.

Leaders of the ABVP’s DU unit burned the effigy of SFI. This action aimed to denounce the alleged brutality of the communist student organization against fellow students. The demonstration took place at 5 p.m. on March 12, 2024. The venue was the Swami Vivekananda Statue, Arts Faculty, Delhi University.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings

Since then, several leaders of SFI, accused of the brutal torture of second-year student Siddharth, have been arrested. The dean and hostel warden attempted to provide support to the SFI leaders responsible for Siddharth’s demise.

Allegations Against SFI Leaders

Siddharth endured a mob trial. During this, he was reportedly stripped naked. Moreover, he was assaulted with iron rods, belts, and wires. Allegedly, SFI leaders were dissatisfied with Siddharth for dancing with senior female students during a Valentine’s Day celebration. ABVP at DU strongly opposes the alleged torture inflicted by SFI upon Siddharth.

ABVP’s Demands

The ABVP Kerala unit led protests across the state. They demanded that the government transfer the investigation to the CBI. They aimed to arrest the SFI leaders and individuals involved in the student’s death. Fortunately, the state government yielded to the ABVP’s demands.

Navaneet and Soumya, the presidents of the ABVP DU unit, extended invitations to students. They urged them to join the protest against the alleged brutality of SFI towards fellow students on campuses. ABVP workers at Delhi University initiated a signature campaign. Their goal was to protest the killing of second-year student Siddharth by SFI members at KVASU, Pukode, Kerala. They aimed to secure justice for him.

Concerns Raised by Sachin Baisla

Sachin Baisla from Delhi University’s Students’ Union actively asserts that what was initially perceived as suicide was, in fact, murder. He argues that Siddharth, the victim, faced harassment. He accuses SFI leaders of killing him right on campus during their mob trail.

Baisla wants authorities to investigate Siddharth’s death properly. He says this isn’t just about one incident but a bigger problem at the university. Baisla also blames SFI leaders, especially in places like Kerala, for suppressing free speech and forcing people into silence. He worries about the lack of transparency. The university supposedly hid Siddharth’s death for three days. Baisla thinks there could be more cases like Siddharth’s, especially in Kerala, where people suffer in silence. Baisla urges immediate action to ensure student safety.
