In February, Delhi University Executive Council gave approval to the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework or UGCF 2022. However, few members showed disagreement with the new curriculum. The new curriculum will commence from this academic year 2022-23.

Therefore, two dissenting members of the DU Executive wrote a letter to the DU Vice-Chancellor. They requested changes in the structure of UGCF 2022. Further, they say this new curriculum structure would reduce academic rights.

UGCF 2022 ‘Haphazardly made’, says dissenters

In the urging letter, it has been written that the new curriculum is ‘haphazardly made’ by an ‘extra-statutory’ body i.e. NEP cell. The two EC members who oppose the proposals are Seema Das and Rajpal Singh Pawar.

Moreover, the letter reads, “Delhi University is a prestigious higher education institution. Though, the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 based on NEP 2020 has been haphazardly made. Consequently, it is leading to a reduction in academic rigour. Also, it will result in the displacement of several teachers. Specifically, the teachers who are on an ad-hoc basis are in fear of losing their jobs.”

Furthermore, it added, “The total weightage of core paper in Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) or Learning Outcome Based Curriculum Framework or (LOCF) is between 70 to 75 per cent. However, if looking into UGCF 2022, the heritage is 45-50 per cent. Clearly, it will be a reducing agent of workload.”

EC members questioned the removal of English

The opposition said that English has been removed from the option of Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC). It is no longer a compulsory language core in BA and courses. As a result, the workload will be reduced.

Furthermore, they talked about the Multi Entry-Exit system (MEES) and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). These system proposed under NEP are also fluctuating the workload. Moreover, the MEES may inhibit the reservation policies for SC/ST/OBC/EWS in teaching jobs.
