Delhi High Court after analyzing the anxieties of students asked Delhi University to accelerate the commencement of exams. The court observed that the delay in DU exams will adversely affect the carrier perspective of the students. A two-tier justice bench comprising of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subromonium Prasad were listening to the petition. The petition was filed by two law students of Delhi University against the DU exams scheduled by the University.

The court raised the question to Delhi University asking why is Delhi University scheduling exams in mid-August. The University was first ready to conduct exams in early August. The Delhi HC exhorted DU to curtail the timeline and try to prepone the dates of mock tests and final DU exams. After listening to the suggestions from the court, Dean of Examinations Vinay Gupta who attended the hearing via video conferencing because of the COVID situation the suggested that the proposal. He suggested that the foremost mock series can be commenced from 27 July to 29 July. The latter mock test can be conducted from 1st August to 4th August.

The primary purpose of the mock test is to make students familiar with the process of upcoming DU exams. The professor said that the University and prepone the DU exams by eight days and commence OBE from August 10. If the OBE starts from August 10, the University can finish them by August 31.

The University will soon submit an affidavit and state the modified dates for releasing the results and conduction of physical exams. The court has granted three days to DU to submit an affidavit stating the final dates of releasing the results. The next gearing has been scheduled for July 22.

The court realized that as per the DU proposal the DU exam process would last till September 8. The court question Delhi University for making it too late. Also, the University mentioned the evaluation schedule to be finished by October 1. The HC further asked Delhi University to advance it a little earlier.

The Delhi HC asserted that they understand the anxieties of students. It further stated that the court will not interfere in the examination process any further so that process can be finished early.

DU Exams Process

DU stated that the postponement in the process of DU exams was executed due to the inadequacy of technical support. Moreover, the students are not much familiar with the online examination process.

The University officials told the court that over 95% of DU final year students have filled the examination forms. Moreover, the rest of the students are asked to fill the forms by 25 July. The Dean further asserted that the verification of identities of students is also a considerable task.

Delay in DU exams may affect the career of students

The Delhi High Court observed that the delay in exams will affect the carriers of the students. As the career choices for the students will be reduced with the delay of exams. The HC has asked Delhi University to amend the process and schedule keeping in mind the career perspective of the final year students. The court has advised University to reschedule and prepone the DU exams and evaluation process.
