Ram Nath Kovind is the President of India and Delhi University’s Visitor. For alleged administrative lapses, the Ministry of Education requested the President of India to enquire against the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University Yogesh Tyagi.

On October 21, although Tyagi was on a medical leave, he appointed the University Registrar and Pro-Vice-Chancellor. At that time this request was carried forward.

DU VICE-CHANCELLOR HAVE TO SUBMIT A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

On October 22, the Ministry of Education passed an order to invalidate DU Vice-Chancellor Tyagi’s appointments. The administration noted that DU’s Vice-Chancellor does not have the power to make decisions as he was on a medical leave. First of all, he had to submit a medical fitness certificate to the government. Then only he would be allowed to resume office.

THE MINISTRY WILL TAKE ACTION AGAINST DU VICE-CHANCELLOR

The ministry held several meetings to discuss the future course of action. The administration would now decide to initiate an inquiry against Tyagi. The senior official of the ministry of education looks after the central universities. He confirmed the development and said that the ministry has sent a file to the Visitor for his consideration.

If Ram Nath Kovind would approve the inquiry, DU Vice-Chancellor will be on leave until the investigation. Lately, all the complaints against DU Vice-Chancellor Tyagi is of October 22. Delhi University Teachers are continuously complaining against the DU Vice-Chancellor but nobody is considering them.

According to the ministry sources, DU Vice-Chancellor does not act on promotions, fill-up vacancies, and other matters of administration. So, on what basis they shall take any action against him? But, this is the latest incident according to which they can take any action.

On October 21, Tyagi appointed Professor P.C. Jha as the registrar of DU. Moreover, he signed a letter confirming his appointment. So, at that time the incident took place and leadership crises emerged. On the same day, Delhi University was about to hold the Executive Council meeting to decide who would be the permanent registrar and financial officer.

WHOM DID THE COUNCIL REPLACE WITH DU VICE-CHANCELLOR?

The council held a meeting and appointed Vikash Gupta as the registrar. But, it did not go well with the Vice-Chancellor and appointed Geeta Bhatt as the acting pro-vice-chancellor. She is the associate professor at Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences. However, this idea was to revoke Joshi’s decision. In the evening, to nullify two appointments, the ministry passed another order.
