The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras launched a STEM program. This program is a summer program which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Further, it is for rural or unprivileged students. It is being conducted from 20 to 25 June 2022.

Aim of STEM Program

The aim of IIT behind launching this summer program is to reach over 1 lakh students belonging from government schools around the country. And, to teach and motivate learners to keep their interest in science and technology. Further, the program mode is online because the education sector has changed a lot after the covid-19 pandemic. 

Besides, 100 students of class 10th have been selected to give an onset to this program. Department of School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu did the selection. Officials check their backgrounds and select 100 students and give a list to IIT Madras. Thereafter, the varsity arranges transport and accommodation for these students. Accordingly, students will stay for a week on the campus. Also, they will get an electronic kit at the start of the program.

While staying on the campus for 1-week students will learn various topics under this program. Includes Environmental and Electronic aspects in Engineering, Technological growth in Renewable Energies and Applied Mathematics, Information and Communication Technologies and more. Moreover, the languages of teaching are English and Tamil.

Thiru. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said, “The Department of School Education gave preference to students of the deprived background while making a selection. Moreover, this is just the beginning, more and more students will join shortly. The program will comprise 70% practical and the remaining theory.
