Educational institutions including schools and colleges will be reopening from next week in Assam. Hence, the Assam government has decided to finally reopen educational institutions from 2nd November under Unlock 5 guidelines. However, all the social distancing norms are made mandatory to ensure student’s safety amidst the pandemic.

Government officials made this statement on 31st October 2020. Schools and colleges in Assam will be reopening after 7 to 8 months. The Ministry of Education has already set up guidelines for the reopening of educational institutions. Hence, it will vary from state to state as deemed fit by the state governments at various places. However, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Utter Pradesh, and many other states are also planning the reopening from November.

What are the new reopening guidelines?

Students will only be allowed to enter the school and college premises if they have a written statement for willingly attending schools. Hence, an SoP is mandatory for attending classes. Secondary students from classes 6th to 12th are only allowed to resume attending classes. Hence, primary children, from the 1st to 5th standard will stick to the online mode of education. Faculty members are guided to follow all the covid-19 protocols and ensure the safety of the students.

New time slots after the reopening of educational institutions:

Classes will be held on alternate days. Hence, this is the new method adopted to avoid overcrowding and promote social distancing amidst the new normal. Therefore, standard 6th, 8th, and 12th will have classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Classes 7th, 9th, and 11th will hence, have sessions on Tuesday, Thursday, and, Saturday. Therefore, all this will segregate the students promoting maximum safety.

Time slots will also differ for different batches. Hence, all educational institutions in Assam will run classes in two shifts. Shift one, i.e. the morning shift will continue from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The afternoon noon shift will be conducted from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Online mode of education will continue as the preferred mode of study. Hence, students can choose whether to attend physical classes or via online mode. All the school and college buildings in Assam will be completely sanitized before reopening. Hostel facilities will stay suspended until further orders.

Faculty members including teaching and non-teaching staff, helpers, and cooks involved in the cooking of mid-day meals are tested for coronavirus. Hence, the Assam government is guaranteeing the best in such adverse situations.
