A trust supporting several private schools has gone to the Supreme Court seeking direction to the Delhi government to release all dues to them for providing education to the students from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups.
As per the RTE, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the Directorate of Education of Delhi government guarantees free education to the economically weaker sections (EWS) students and disadvantaged groups (DG) even in unassisted private schools by repaying them the costs.
On Thursday, the petition was filed in the top court by Delhi-based Private Land Public Schools Trust through lawyer A P Singh on the topic and it is probable to discuss in the next few days.
The plea stated that defendants 2 and 3 (issue a writ of mandamus against the DoE and the Government of Delhi) for issuing all payments outstanding towards providing education to EWS / DG category students by private landless schools and in the future, in the same quarter Make payment Beginning of each quarter, to enable the school to manage its uncertain finances in a more feasible way.
Singh mentioned that the trust supporting over 150 private schools of Delhi are facing many problems because of delay in donations by the DoE for giving education to DG and EWS category students.
The trust, in a request stored through its general secretary Chandrakant Singh, has strived a direction from the government of Delhi to release the funds according to the approved and proposed rates on July 2, 2018, and 2017-18 to 19.
The request expressed that assets used by the central government to the Delhi government for the institution of the RTE Demonstration should arrive at its lawful beneficiaries which are private autonomously schools like the seeker.
It also strived a deposit of fees in progress to make decent the financial shortage of such schools and would support them in payment of salaries to staff members in this COVID-19 pandemic.
The plea said 12 months fees of economically weaker category students should be paid to all schools.
It has been claimed that there has a postponement in repayment of charges and different costs to such schools by the Delhi government.
