A pattern change for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced has been discussed by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) this year. IITs have been receiving several requests from various stakeholders, including states, to make Joint Entrance Examination Advanced easier this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This matter regarding JEE Advanced is to be talked over in the next Joint Admission Board meeting.
JEE Advanced is conducted across the whole country for admission to the 23 IITs. One of the IITs every year is held responsible for conducting the exam. This year, IIT Delhi is in charge of conducting the JEE Advanced.
The matter concerning the change in the exam pattern and feasible reduction in the syllabus will be restored to the discussion at the IITs in their following Joint Admission Board (JAB) meeting. The meeting is to be held this week later.
A final decision on the exam pattern of JEE Advanced will only be taken after the JAB meeting. This information has been confirmed by an HRD ministry, who did not wish to be named.
In the previous meeting JAB called on Friday, IITs agreed on to do away with the mandatory criterion of 75 percent marks in Class 12.

OLD IITs AGAINST MAKING EXAMS EASY
A senior official stated that the matters regarding the syllabus, exam pattern, etc. of JEE Advanced are still at a discussion stage.
Whereas, another official regarding the developments stated that older IITs are not favoring the decision of making the exam easy this year. They are worried as it will lay a precedent.
The requests have been made from states to change the pattern and make the exam easier this year of JEE Advanced. However, the older IITs are not in favor of the decision of making the question paper easier. According to them, if it’s done this year, it will be like starting a new trend. The students from class 10th itself start preparing for IITs. Thus, the loss of studies for the last four months should not matter in that case.
JEE Advanced: IITs To Talk About Syllabus Cut and Change in Exams Pattern
It is not the first occasion when the IITs have been asked to modify the difficulty level of JEE Advanced.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development had asked them to bring down the difficulty level in 2018. They stated that JEE Advanced was too difficult and many seats were left vacant, as many candidates failed to clear the exam.
The IITs dismissed their request and refused to comply back then. They decided to stick to their set criteria for JEE Advance. This year, the JEE Advanced exam is slated to be conducted on 27 September. It has been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
