A Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) will be set up in the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi (IIT BHU). The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has facilitated the establishment of RAC -S. IIT BHU and ISRO have signed a virtual memorandum of understanding (MoU). The project aims to boost advanced research in future technology of the space program.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) will aid in promoting space activities, said the Director of IIT BHU Prof P.K. Jain. The Centre will promote research and development activities of ISRO, awareness, capacity, and building. Added with the activities of the RAC-S will maximize the utilization of infrastructure, reach the research potential, and utilize the expertise available at the IIT-BHU and the ISRO.
The eminent institutes of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh will participate in various research and development activities. The institutes that have excellence in the fields of science and technology will rope in. Moreover, the RAC-S project will be headed by IIT-BHU as the project monitor.
RAC-S will incite research in various fields. IIT BHU will hold research in space application, telecommunications, space technology, space science, agriculture, meteorology, and water resources. In all, they will aim towards building developmental models for the effective management of natural resources. Its speculated that the research will foster the development of Puruvanchal and central regions of our country.
Various long- and short-term projects will be initiated and financed by the Centre to promote growth and development. Other short-term projects for the institute and other associate institutes like B. Tech and MTech will be included in this sequence.
The institute will also offer long term research and development projects like Ph.D. programs. To enrich and strengthen the knowledge base in this field short term courses will also be organized. Capacity building programs like exhibitions and conferences will add to the skill base of the students.
