Amidst huge protest of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) regarding the non-payment of salaries to the faculty of six Delhi University colleges. The Delhi Government announced to release a grant-in-aid of Rs 32.1 crore on Tuesday. Delhi government funds these 12 colleges. But DUTA considers this amount as insufficient.
The funds are divided among the six Delhi universities. Rs 6.80 crore is allocated to Acharya Narendra Dev College, Rs 4 crore to Indira Gandhi Institute, Rs 5.80 crore to Maharaja Agrasen College, Rs 4.65 crore to Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women, Rs 4.50 crore to Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences and the remaining Rs 6.35 crore to Bhim Rao Ambedkar College.
Still, six colleges haven’t received any grant. The list includes Maharishi Valmiki College of Education, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, and Bhagini Nivedita College.
There are 12 colleges in the Delhi university funded by Delhi Government. The colleges claim that the government has not given proper funds to them. This results in a non-payment of salaries to the staff members since May.
DUTA STRIKE: CLASSES’ SUSPENSION FOR THREE DAYS
However, the government discarded this claim by saying that it has released adequate funds on time. On this, DUTA made it clear that the amount allocated to the colleges is not sufficient to covers its expenses.
They hope that this announcement gets converted into money immediately and these six colleges don’t have to wait further. However, the other six colleges have to still wait for the sanction, said DU Teachers Association President Rajib Ray. Showing solidarity with the Delhi Government funded colleges, Delhi University Teachers Association expressed its support and concern. He further said that the Delhi Government’s disruptive policies won’t work with them.
An anonymous source says that the six colleges who have received the grant-in-aid to pay salaries to the staff have chairman from the governing body. The anonymous varsity official mentions that the colleges whose grant still awaits to be sanctioned have varsity nominees as chairman.
Pankaj Garg, Former Academic Council member said that the government is harassing the teachers of the rest six colleges and is following the age-old policy of divide and rule. He further expressed this concern on the matter and said that the government should allot funds to all the remaining colleges.
DUTA RAGES AGAINST DELHI GOVERNMENT’S SUGGESTION TO MISAPPROPRIATE STUDENTS FUND
On this matter, an official of the Delhi government said that the six colleges which cooperated on the transparency of accounts and audits, funds were released for them.
The salaries are due from March however the grants received from the government will help the university to pay the staff members from June. Dr. Payal Mago, the Principal of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women told that the grant will help her to the faculty for June, July, and August. The authorities have planned to receive the fees by September and will manage the salaries from that amount.
Dr. Ravi Toteja, Principal of Acharya Narendra Dev College said that the information on the release of grants was conveyed to them through a social media notification. They are yet to receive an official notice regarding it from the concerned authorities.
