DELHI UNIVERSITY

The DU (Delhi University) has decided to conduct its exams in August while the other Universities have decided to cancel the exams of the final year. All the state universities of Delhi, West Bengal, Odisha among others have decided to cancel the exams of the students of the final year.

In a discussion with the NDTV, Akshay Marathe, the spokesperson of AAP, said that there are two things happening simultaneously. On one hand, the central government does not have the courage to conduct the parliamentary meetings in person because of the COVID-19 scare. On the other hand, it becomes imperative to conduct exams for the students.

This decision of the UGC and the MHRD is shocking when there is ample evidence that the coronavirus can spread through an air-borne fashion. Why is so much effort being put on conducting examinations and risking the lives of lakhs of students in the process?

The Parliamentarians are not willing to attend the committee meetings in-person to save themselves. But the futures of lakhs of students are being sacrificed like this.

Akshay Marathe also pointed out that the Representative of the Delhi University is saying that the students have already registered for the exams. There is no issue with them registering already. The registration process had happened two months ago. At that time, the coronavirus scare was not fully known to everyone.

The students did not know that the teaching and learning process would be halted for an indefinite period. It was not known to the students that the final exams will be held in September.

Akshay Marathe reprimanded the system by saying that it is extremely unfortunate and disturbing to see that the future of so many students is being sacrificed during this pandemic.
