Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi has asked the department of Higher education to administer an audit of two Delhi University (DU) Colleges. The Shaheed Sukhdev College and Lakshmibai College of Delhi University have been reportedly told with complainants of financial abnormalities. The students, guardians, teachers, and governing body members are reporting the mismanagement going on the college premises.

Delhi University’s Shaheed Sukhdev College is fully funded by the government while the Lakshmibai college is partially funded.

On Friday, 10th July 2020 Manish Sisodia who is the education minister in a letter said that he has been continuously receiving complaints of the financial abnormalities in the two colleges. The complaints of financial irregularities taking place in Delhi University’s Shaheed Sukhdev College and Lakshmibai College. The abnormalities have been marked in the tender process and the purchases by the two colleges. He asserted that this is a matter of concern.

The department of higher education has been asked to look into the matter and get the accounts of the previous two years. The minister has specifically asked for the accounts of controller and auditor general empaneled auditor. The letter states that the compliance report is to be furnished within 15 days. It further added that if any irregularities found in the reports, the strictest action should be taken against the concerned officials.

Poonam Verma, Shaheed Sukhdev Singh College’s principal in response to the order said that they have not received any letter yet. She asserted that she can not refute what must be in knowledge of the minister. However, the college has not received any complaints so far. Any complaints regarding the matter should, therefore, be brought to the knowledge of college authorities as well.

She further asserted that the audit was completely done until 2019 at both state and central level. If the authorities want to do it again, she has no objection to it.

Pratush Vatsala, the principal of Lakshmibai college too claimed that she has not received any letter so far. She asserted that the audit of books is a regular procedure and every college has to go through it every year. Regarding the complaints, she said that the college was not informed of any complaints.

A few days back, a complaint was filed against Bhagini Nivedita College and a similar audit report was asked. An allegation was filed against the college by the governing body member. However, the allegation was later refused by the government official.

The chairperson at the Shaheed Sukhdev College is the University nominee. Whereas at Lakshmibai College, GB elections are yet to take place.
