Delhi University teachers have expressed objection to asking for data from assistant professors. A letter to DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh has been written regarding the same. It was stated in the letter why such data is being sought only from assistant professors. 11 members of the Executive Council, Academic Council, and DUTA Executive of Delhi University have written a letter.

This information was sought including pregnancy. Personal information like voter ID number, assembly constituency, and pregnancy of female teachers is being sought from assistant professors at all levels. In the letter written to the DU Vice-Chancellor regarding the data, It was stated that the way the data has been sought, there is a complete possibility of it being used for election duty.

Teachers have said that any attempt to involve teachers in the elections will not be in the interest of the students. In the letter dated October 11, the teachers also mentioned that a nodal officer has been appointed for such data collection. Will this nodal officer facilitate coordination with other agencies?

The letter further said that this is a violation of the terms of service approved by the UGC and published in the Gazette of India. DU also admitted that the teachers of Delhi University were never involved in election-related duties. DU is an autonomous institution and does not come under the purview of the state government.

Sought clarification about seeking information

DU teachers questioned the Vice-Chancellor to look into the matter. And clarify why this information was being collected. Any attempt to involve university teachers in election-related duties is not in the interest of the students.

Teachers of Motilal Nehru College, Delhi University (DU) protested on the campus on Thursday. The teachers are protesting as no relaxation in the ongoing permanent faculty recruitment was given to ad-hoc teachers. According to the report, the college principal or the DU administration didn’t take any immediate action over the issue.
