Recently, the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) — an environmental treaty of the United Nation has removed Actor Randeep Hooda as its ambassador. The secretariat of CMS informed about this in a statement.

An old video of Randeep Hooda went viral where the actor made a joke about Politician Mayawati, Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. This happened at an event hosted by the India Today media House and his comment was said to be “sexist and casteist”.

The CMS Secretariat said that the comments made in the video are “offensive” and also that it came to know of the video clip only recently. Further, CMS went on to say that these comments “did not reflect the values” of the CMS Secretariat or the United Nations. CMS Secretariat further added that the organization was not aware of the 2012 video when Randeep Hooda was appointed as a CMS Ambassador for Migratory Species in February 2020.

Randeep Hooda served only for the CMS and he was nominated as the ambassador along with British biologist Ian Redmond OBE and Australian explorer and environmentalist Sacha Dench. He had to serve his duties in 2023.
