By receiving over 3,53,717 applications for it’s UG programs, Delhi University has observed a bounce in the total number of applications for DU admissions by almost one lakh this year.
The previous year, Delhi University had received over 2.58 lakh applications for it’s UG courses. Monday I.e., August 31st was the last date for registration and submission of application forms for admission to Delhi University for the academic year 2020-21. Earlier the deadline was July 31st which was extended by a month.
While the number of registrations and applications for DU admissions has observed a rise, unlike last year, the number of male applicants is higher than female applicants this time. Over 1.81 lakh applications are of boys whereas over 1.72 lakh applicants are girls. Last year, the number of female applicants was marginally higher at 1.29 lakh whereas the boys were 1.28 lakh.
Around 60% of the total applicants for UG courses are non-Delhiite. About 1,42,526 applicants from Delhi make up to 40.2% of the total applications for DU admissions this year.

WHAT WILL BE THE DU ADMISSION PROCESS THIS YEAR?
The number of applications from the Haryana state board has noticed a surge from the previous year’s 8,195 to 12,272. While applications from the CISCE board have risen from 8,398 to 11,521. Maintaining the trend, the highest number of applications are from the CBSE board which marks 80% of the total applications.
After a long debate over whether the University of Delhi would administer ECA admissions this year or not, the University ultimately introduced the ECA quota with various categories in August for DU admissions. However, this year has observed a substantial drop in the number of applications through the ECA quota. The applications in the debate category have reduced from 20,31 last year to 1,282 this year. While the applications in the fine arts category have reduced from 1,626 last year to 709 this year.

Experts, however, claim that the cutoffs for this year are expected to go high due to two primary reasons. First, the number of applications for admission to Delhi University has increased by almost a lakh this year. Second, the number of students scoring 95% and above in board exams has risen this year. This substantial increase in the number of applications and scores of board exams is expected to bring a surge in this year’s Delhi University cutoffs.
