On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi devoted to the country Ayurveda research and a teaching institute in Gujarat. This will provide forge interdisciplinary collaborations and a range of courses to provide a new push to the ancient medicine system.

The PM inducted through video conferencing, the newly formed Ayurveda research and a teaching institute (ITRA), has been accorded the importance of an institution of national importance (INI).

Ayurveda’s research and teaching institute was established through an Act of Parliament newly. It was shaped by integrating a cluster of 4 Ayurveda institutes at the university campus.

These 4 organizations were the Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, and Maharshi Patanjali Institute for Yoga Naturopathy Education and Research, Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shree Gulab Kunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya,.

Parliament had approved a Bill in September for the creation of ITRA and bestowed it the status of an institution of national significance.

The PIB stated that the ITRA is the first association to have this status in the AYUSH (Yoga, Ayurveda, & Naturopathy, Siddha Unani, and Homoeopathy) sector.

The release said this will encourage the institution to be innovative and independent in the matter of determining course content and teaching.

It further added that the decision enters at a time when global attention in health solutions based on traditional knowledge is at unprecedentedly high status. However, ITRA is suspended to take Ayurveda education to modern sceneries.

The Ministry of AYUSH release stated that ITRA will have sovereignty to promote the norms of Ayurveda education.

The release said it will provide courses, individually for national and international needs, and develop inter-disciplinary affiliations to provide a modern push to Ayurveda. As per the Act of the state Assembly, the Gujarat Ayurveda University was founded in 1967.

The institute looks after the supervision of the institutes and colleges arranged on the campus along with organizing exams of diplomas awarded by the institute.
