This was because they were accused of not behaving well with a warden in Shipra hostel on the campus. This led to Introduction of new JNU’s controversial rules.

Fast forward to now, and there are even more rules at JNU that students are not happy about. These rules were agreed upon by the university’s big decision-making group, the Executive Council, on November 24.

What Are the New Rules?

These rules talk about what students can and cannot do. If students want to protest or do things like hunger strikes or group bargaining, they might have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. Also, they cannot do these things close to where important university stuff happens.

If students plan events like parties without asking first, they could be fined Rs 6,000 and may need to do something called JNU Community Service.

Why Are People Not Happy?

The students at JNU, through their group called JNU Students Union (JNUSU), are not happy about the new JNU’s controversial rules. They say these rules are trying to stop the exciting and free-thinking atmosphere that has been at JNU for many years.

JNUSU’s Concerns

The JNUSU thinks these rules are too strict. They believe the rules are there to stop students from talking openly, disagreeing, and exploring new ideas, which are really important things at the university.

What Do the Students Union Say?

The JNUSU made a statement saying the new rules are making it hard for students to express themselves freely. According to the rules, if students protest near an important building, they might get kicked out of the hostel for two semesters, fined Rs 20,000, and even made to leave the JNU campus for two semesters.

Problems with the New Rules

The JNUSU also says there are problems with how the rules are written. They think some parts are not clear, which means people might not understand them well. This can lead to some students being treated unfairly.

What the Students Union Wants

The JNUSU wants the university to take back these new rules. They think everyone should talk and decide things together, so different ideas are considered. They are asking all students to come together and protect what makes JNU special – a place where you can think and learn without fear.
