Hindu College cracks down on indiscipline. The Principal said that the college has rusticated students for a finite period. It’s based on their level of involvement in disrupting the college elections. As per the recommendation of the college’s Disciplinary Resource Committee.
In September, Hindu College students went on a hunger strike. It was to protest the rejection of 30 nominations. Nominations were for the positions of student union president and central councillors. The college cited low attendance as the reason for the cancellation. But ordered an inquiry after the matter escalated and required police intervention.
What have the students to say?
One of the rusticated students said that the college only counted attendance in theory classes. Attendance in practical classes wasn’t considered. After the Hindu college rusticates 15 students, the students demanded a notice releasing their full attendance records. The Lyngdoh Committee requires students to have at least 75% attendance.
The Disciplinary Resource Committee (DRC) has rusticated 15 students. It is for their involvement in disrupting the college elections. The inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
