On Thursday, Ranjithsinh Disale, Global Teacher Prize 2020 winner, welcomed the 46th president of the United States of America Mr. Joe Biden. Ranjithsinh also welcomed President Biden’s focus on the importance of education and applauded his choice of Miguel Cardona, a former teacher, as his education secretary.
A primary school teacher from the village of Paritewadi in Solapur District of Maharashtra, Ranjithsinh Disale, has bagged the US$ 1 million prized Global Teacher Prize Award 2020. Disale described teachers as the coalface of the challenges which the education faces in today’s world.
He shared that he was heartened when the teaching profession was referred to as the most important profession by President Biden last year in the US and also at his choice of a former teacher as his education secretary.
Talking of Jill Biden, he said that he had no doubt that, as the first teacher, she will be a strong voice for teachers everywhere as she understands first-hand how important role teachers play.
From among the thousand nominations worldwide for the Global Teacher Prize 2020, the Indian primary school teacher was crowned the winner. He holds the credit of changing/transforming the lives of young girls of Paritewadi of Solapur district of Maharashtra. These are the girls who attend the Zila Parishad Primary School at Paritewadi.
First time ever in the history of Global Teacher, Prize the crowned winner, Disale decided to share 50 percent of his prize amount with his fellow finalists.
Global Teacher Prize 2020, founded by Varkey Foundation, is held in partnership with UNESCO. In recognition of Disale’s efforts in promoting girls’ education.
