An explosion in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon on Tuesday. Widespread damage was caused as the cases of shattered windows and dropped ceilings were reported miles away. The photos ad videos of witnesses show large plumes of smoke and damaged buildings.

The security sources have said that a large number of people have been injured during the widespread destruction, across the whole of the city. The residents have reported that windows have blown out and the ceilings have collapsed.

There is thick smoke billowing from the city center. This large blast has rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut days ahead of the verdict in a politically sensitive murder trial. Eyewitnesses say that many people are injured.

The state-run National News agency reported that the source of the explosion was a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the port in Beirut. In the wake of the explosion in Beirut, a red cloud hung over the headquarters of the former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the bureau of CNN in the city.
