The Delhi University admission process for the undergraduate courses in the academic session 2020-21 is about to end, but the Delhi University administration has begun a feud over the admission 5 seats “College-University seats”. Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Delhi University Students Union officials protested at the Faculty of Arts near DU north campus on 23rd December over the entire matter.

During the protest, the ABVP members and other protestors screeched slogans against Dr. PC Joshi, the DU’s Vice-Chancellor and Registrar Vikas Gupta. At the same time, Akshit Dahiya, the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) president said that University’s decision will lead to corruption and discrimination. The DUSU president has demanded the University of Delhi to withdraw this decision soon. At the time of protest, a large number of Delhi Police personal were present.

Corruption will get a boost with ‘College-University seats’ quota

Akshit Dahiya, DUSU president said that as per the new notification issued by the DU on December 21st, 2020, the DU college principals have been given authority to give admissions to 5 seats for undergraduate courses. He added that this decision will lead to nepotism and corruption in DU colleges.

Only the money will get to seek admission in Delhi University

ABVP Delhi Pradesh Minister Siddharth Yadav who is protesting against the decision said that with this decision, the college seats in DU will be sold in lakhs. Only students who could pay a hefty commission will be able to secure a seat at DU. He added that this decision of DU will only promote injustice and corruption and will be unfair to the meritorious students seeking admission in DU.

Furthermore, he demanded that this decision which will lay down the foundation in DU should be withdrawn immediately, or else the students will hold protests in front of every DU college/department.

ABVP Held Meeting with Registrar to demand withdrawal of decision

ABVP Delhi Pradesh Minister and Union Officer Siddharth Yadav met Vikas Gupta, DU registrar, and expressed his disagreement over the University and College Seat decision. He further demanded that this latest decision should be withdrawn soon.

The official released by University website  reads that “On the request of Principals of constituent colleges of the University of Delhi and elected Executive Council members, a committee was constituted to explore the possibility to provide few seats to the colleges in view of COVID:19 Pandemic for admission in UG Courses (merit based) over and above the sanctioned strength as supernumerary seats, The Competent Authority of the University has approved the recommendation of the committee for 5 admissions under “College – University seats in the current Academic Session 2020 2021.
