On Thursday, the University of Delhi announced an early winter break amid air pollution. As per the official notice issued by Delhi University, the GRAP-IV measures are being implemented in the national capital. As a result the winter break which is given in December, is now given in advance.

Break which is typically given in December, has been modified remembering the GRAP-IV measures being executed in the midst of the overall air contamination in Delhi, DU said.

All institutes and colleges of DU have been approached to announce the winter break from 13 November to 19 November.

The notification issued on Thursday read, To hold over the predominant natural contamination brought about by serious air quality and execution of GRAP-IV estimates in Delhi, it has been chosen to announce November 13 to 19 as winter break for the colleges and universities.

It said that the University of Delhi has also revised the examination date for its postgraduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) courses. The exams will commence on 8 January and 20 December respectively.

An official said that the schedule for the exams of these courses will be released soon. Moreover, for SOL students the dates for exams will remain the same.

Earlier, the date for the examination was scheduled for 13 December for UG and 1 January for PG. The official said the examinations have been postponed by seven days.

Delhi puts off the execution of the odd-even plan

In the meantime, in related news, the Delhi government on Friday declared putting off the proposed execution of the odd-even vehicle apportioning plan in the city considering the slight improvement seen in the capital’s air quality.

An improvement is found in the contamination level. The AQI which was 450+ has now stretched around 300. The choice to execute odd-even from November 13 to 20 has been deferred. The circumstance would be dissected again after Diwali, Gopal Rai, Delhi Environment Minister said.

The SC on Friday saw that the report from the Amicus Curiae had recommended that the Odd-even plan didn’t help in cutting contamination levels down.
