Workers of Ambedkar Ganguly hostel of Delhi University fired on Monday without any prior notice.
Due to COVID-19, many workers especially working on the lowest authority have lost their jobs. People are facing unemployment due to the coronavirus pandemic. People are brutally facing poverty in such a critical situation. Nineteen sanitation workers working in Ambedkar Ganguly Hostel of Delhi University lost their jobs. They were not given any prior notice. They just got a phone call from the hostel on Monday. They were informed on the phone call that they are fired.

21 SANITATION WORKERS ARE WORKING IN THE HOSTEL

Nutan is a Sanitation worker at Delhi University hostel. She said that they are working every day despite the lockdown and the pandemic. They did not expect this decision. She further said that she is the only earning member of her family. They do not have any other means to survive. There are 21 sanitation workers working in the Delhi University hostel. Out of them, 19 workers have lost their job.

WORKERS WERE NOT GIVEN SAFETY GEARS

As the workers were working even in lockdown by risking their lives, Nutan said that they were not provided any safety gear despite the high number of coronavirus cases. They were once given a mask. Now, those workers who are fired are planning to go on a strike to take them back.

THE STATEMENT OF NO SALARY IS ALREADY PASSED BY THE WORKERS

However, due to the coronavirus restrictions, they don’t know where to go ahead. She said that the workers are helpless and don’t know what to do. Workers were not given salaries of which they have already issued a statement. The statement read that the coronavirus pandemic has already tried to doom humans in multiple ways.

STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO COME BACK ONLY WITH “NO CORONA CERTIFICATE”

This is yet another step of the brutal administration which is worse than the COVID-19 pandemic, that they are not given salary. It would bring all the workers to the footpath. Workers were already told that the Delhi University hostel do not have money to pay them a salary. Students said that a lot of them were forced to vacate the hostel. They were allowed to come back only if they had a “no corona certificate.”
