With the start of new year, the work for Delhi University’s East Campus will begin on the 6.8 hectares of land at Surajmal Vihar. Delhi University is all set to begin the construction work to open an academic block in East Delhi. A DU law center and School of Open Learning (SOL) will be shifted to this campus.
On the other hand, the East Campus of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP) will start by July 2021. The campus spread over 18 acres of land at Surajmal Vihar will open the School of Automation and Robotics and the School of Design and Innovation from the academic session 2021-22. BTech courses (720 seats) will be taught in these schools.
DU School of Open Learning To Shift To Delhi University’s East Campus
DU School of Open Learning will be shifted from its main center in Delhi North Campus to East Delhi once the work is done. DU administration has planned to build a multi storeyed building for DU SOL and a law center in East Delhi.
The Delhi University’s East Campus land is located near Karkardooma district courts complex and is easily accessible and surrounded by Red and Blue lines of Delhi Metro.
As per the reports, the academic block in East Delhi would not have traditional departments, but now ones with a thrust towards arts courses, including state of the art departments and a school of design.
Earlier the reports have been out of the rumors that a new office and a residential block will be built in the East Delhi location. These would also include houses for not only DU teaching and non-teaching staff but also include hostel facility for DU students.
Delhi University East Campus will be well connected with the metro and handily available with other facilities. As per the statements made by DU VC earlier, they will be making a provision for treating wastewater as an effort towards a sustainable campus.
