WILL SCHOOL FEE REDUCTION ASSIST PARENTS AMIDST THE COVID CRISIS?

The Supreme Court ordered the educational institutions to reduce their school fee. They said that the running cost of educational institutions has been cut down due to the lockdown and transition to online classes. Therefore, students should be given some compensation in school fees as their parents might be saving on miscellaneous expenditures.

The covid-19 pandemic has brought an economic recession leading to numerous job losses, delayed salary payments, and a lot more problems. Thus, giving them some relief via fee reduction is justifiable.

Here is what school principals said on the school fee reduction:

Rajesh Kumar Singh, the founder of Kunwar’s Global School at Lucknow supported the Supreme Court’s decision of giving concessions. Hence, he said that many people have lost their jobs due to the crisis which made it difficult for them to pay school fees. So, educational institutions should be sensitive towards the problems faced by the mass and reduce fees. Singh added that school fee reduction will not create a huge impact on the regular functioning until online classes continue.

Sr Christina, the principal of De Paul Public School said that they had already reduced 30 percent of their fee. Thus, observing the financial hardships faced by parents, a reduction was made. However, the school is not in favor of making any further concessions as it will lead to severe repercussions on staff salaries. Hence, the principal adds that they are bound to pay full salary to the teaching and non-teaching staff. Also, investment in technology is further added to the list of expenditures.

Involvement of parents in school fee structure:

Parents should be aware of the functioning of their children’s respective schools as they pay for them. Hence, the heads of several educational institutions decided to involve parents in fixing the school fee structure. Hence, these parents can now make sure that the schools are not charging extra for their personal profits.
