Ad-hoc teachers account for around 70 percent of the  DU teaching faculty. Hence, no wonder they form the pillars of DU professing faculty. As per the statistical analysis, around 6000 ad-hoc teachers are currently working in DU and its affiliated colleges.

The Delhi University (DU) data says that 57 DU colleges have over 3500 ad-hoc teachers working. Hence, this has also stopped the appointment of permanent professors.

Here is the list of ad-hoc teachers in some DU Colleges:

  • DalautRam College – 135
  • Ramjas College – 134
  • Kalindi College – 114
  • Shri Venkateshwara College – 126
  • Gargi College – 87
  • Kirorimal College – 81
  • Shri Ram College of Commerce – 75
  • Indraprastha College – 79

What is the issue of the increasing number of ad-hoc teachers?

The Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal was questioned by MPs Vishambhar Prasad Nishad, Chaudhary Sukhram Singh Yadav, and others. Hence, they asked about the hike in the number of non-permanent teachers in DU and the reason for the non-appointment of permanent ones.

However, this issue was first raised in the Rajya Sabha. The year-wise detail of each college is submitted by the education ministry for inspection. Therefore, according to the Delhi University (DU) reports, 3,530 posts for permanent teachers are lying vacant in around 57 of its colleges. The Delhi University (DU) is an autonomous university created under the Act of Parliament. Hence, it has the sole right to fill up the empty posts of permanent teachers.
