WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF SRI VENKATESWARA COLLEGE GET DISAFFILIATED FROM DU?

The staff and students of Sri Venkateswara College have become concerned ever since the news about the Andhra Pradesh government reportedly requested the education ministry to disaffiliate the college from Delhi University.

On the condition of anonymity, an official of the Sri Venkateswara college said that if the central government gave its nod to disaffiliation of the college from DU, it will encourage other states to take similar action in order to get other colleges disaffiliated from the university.

The official said that the voice may be raised for disaffiliation of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and Mata Sundari College for Women if the request of the Andhra Pradesh government gets fulfilled. The official also added that the Sri Venkateshwara College will lose its charm if it goes to Andhra University. According to him, students opt for Sri Venkateswara College as it belongs to Delhi University.

Another source associated with the college said that the proposal sounds irrational as this would take away the status of a college of a central university. He added that the state government might offer autonomous status to college after disaffiliation and the college will be asked to generate funds. Students will have to bear an additional burden on fees in case of autonomy and it could be a step towards privatization.

DU TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR DELHI UNIVERSITY SHUT DOWN FROM MARCH 11

Another issue for the teachers would be pay disparity as the Delhi University has already implemented the Seventh Pay Commission while Sixth Pay Commission is still being offered by the Andhra Pradesh government. It has been claimed by both the officials that any official communication in this regard from the concerned authority is yet to be received.

The aim of the move by the AP government is to facilitate greater access to higher education in Delhi for state students.
