DU aspiring students face a lot of problems during the online admission process under the first cut-off list. Admissions in the first list have been closed on 14th October 2020. Therefore, this new virtual first cutoff admission was riddled with unwanted problems and grievances. DU portal crash, lack of options, technical glitch, and a lot more have made admissions under the first cutoff very tough to execute. Hence, a lot of aspiring candidates were bereft of admission.
DU admission based problems are a major reason for a comparatively lesser number of admissions than the last year. Hence, the varsity is constantly working to eliminate such problems. However, the first cutoff admission was the first try on this digital route. Therefore, the eliminations of problems that emerged are to be solved before the release of the second cutoff. Routers are given to colleges where the internet slow down poses a concerning problem. The DU portal is constantly under development to reduce admission related problems to a minimum. Helplines and problem forms are also initiated by the varsity to resolve candidate’s problems.
Brajesh Bharadwaj, a DU aspirant from Delhi says that the portal lacks to provide full-fledged knowledge about B.A. Program courses offered by various colleges. He wanted to check out the options and the possible combinations of courses made available in the program course. However, these details were not available about what combinations are offered. Hence, all this left him confused which a problem that seeks an immediate remedy.
Pratibha Sinha, a Ghaziabad-based DU aspirant talks about her problems. She says that even after constantly ringing on the college helpline, she did not receive any response from the faculty. Hence, this can make the students lose faith in the DU helplines.
Several technical glitches are also witnessed on the DU portal. Few students have complained that their admission got rejected due to technical problems. However, the nodal offices are not responding making the procedure more problematic and complicated. Hence, the varsity cannot reject admissions of well qualifying students due to technical problems and this issue has to be resolved soon.
Arti Kumar, a DU aspirant says, “Colleges are refusing to accept undertakings for incomplete documents.” DU has already announced a 14-day extension for fresh category certificates, but certain colleges are unwilling to accept the undertaking. The COVID pandemic is all responsible for the shutdown which left the students incapable of upgrading their category certificates. Hence, the colleges must grant the designated period of submission. The confused students also add that no room is given on the portal to submit additional documents other than mark sheets.
Extra Curriculum Activity(ECA) quota and the Sports quota students are at a great problem in the admission season 2020-21. Little or rather negligible information is given about sports quota aspirants which are fairly large in numbers. The coronavirus pandemic has already hampered the physical trials and now this minimal information is making the student’s problem even bigger. Ashima Sharma, a Gurugram-based DU aspirant says, “No clarity about admission in the sports quota or the EWS quota regarding the cutoffs is made.” Hence, mismanagement at major levels is seen.
Delhi University Students Union(DUSU) has launched a new campaign with the help of around 500 DU students. Hence, they organized a help desk and are reaching the student’s problems in every possible way. Shubham Chaudhary, the executive councilor, DUSU, says, “They will help students with whatever scope they have, and are doing the same so far.”
