What is the importance of Vat Savitri Puja and why is this puja performed

The worship of Vat Savitri is considered very sacred and important in Hinduism.

This fast is considered to bring good fortune and help in getting a child.

In Indian culture this fast has become a symbol of ideal womanhood.

According to Skanda Purana and Bhavishyottar Purana, this fast is observed on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month.

According to Nirnayamrit, it has been said to observe fast on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month.

On this day, women observe fast and go to the Banyan tree and worship it with incense, lamp and offerings. They offer roli and rice grains and tie a sacred thread on the tree.

Also, she circumambulates the tree with folded hands. This removes the invisible obstacles in her husband's life and grants him a long life along with happiness and prosperity.

It is said that under the Banyan tree, Savitri had brought back to life Satyavan who was lying dead due to the power of her fast for her husband.

Since then this fast is known as Vat Savitri. In this, the Vat tree is worshipped with great devotion.

Women observe this fast for their unbroken good fortune and well-being.

Married women observe fast with devotion for three days from Jyeshtha Krishna Trayodashi to Amavasya.
