It is said that one leg of an IITian is in India and the other in Air India. Students studying in IIT always got offers from outside India. But, this year, there is not even a single US offer.
Microsoft and Uber hired students only for Indian profiles last year. The first week of placement 2020 at IIT is going to close. A fewer international roles came from Taiwan, Singapore and Japan.
Firms from America participated in the hiring process, conducted personal interviews and group discussions. However, placement offices are not clear till now. Microsoft have not released the final list of candidates for the Redmond campus.
WHO GOT OFFER FROM THE US?
Madras, Kharagpur, Guwahati, and Hyderabad IITs confirmed that there is not even a single offer from America. Only two students from the whole institution got US offer. One is from IIT Bombay while the other is from IIT Kanpur.
FROM WHICH COUNTRIES INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES VISITED IIT?
On the other hand, companies of Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan ruled the first phase of Placement 2020. There were 14 international offers that Indian Institute of Technology, Madras accepted. The international offers are from Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati got offers from Singapore and Japan.
Moreover, IIT Delhi got more than 15 international offers. But, it refused the offers from these countries. IIT Hyderabad got International offers from Japan and Taiwan.

Cohesity and HiLabs offered placements at IIT Bombay. Both the companies conducted placement interviews and hired students for Indian roles and HiLabs picked only one student for the US profile.
WHY JOBS ARE DECLINING IN THE US?
A student representative said that there are some of the major reasons because of which jobs are declining in the US. The reasons are slow economy, coronavirus pandemic, and visa policies. Due to COVID 19, software firms are working through work from home format. The firms will not extend it for profiles with larger pay packets.

A professor in-charge said that firms that are offering US roles are waiting to observe how COVID 19 affects the corporate environment. A professor said that many firms have not declared US offers even after conducting interviews. Final year students still have six months to graduate. So, there is a chance that firms will offer Indian roles and convert it into a later stage.
