The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will begin the Civil Services Mains examination on Friday, August 22, 2025. The exam is one of the most important stages in the Civil Services selection process. Candidates who qualified for the Preliminary exam are now eligible to appear for this stage.

If the photo on the admit card is unclear or missing details, candidates must also carry two recent passport-sized photographs with their name and date on them. These photographs should be presented in both sessions along with an undertaking.

  • Black ballpoint pen for the attendance sheet

Bringing bags, books, and other personal belongings inside the exam centre is also not allowed. The exam authorities will not make any arrangements for safekeeping. If candidates bring such items, they will be responsible for arranging storage outside the venue at their own risk. The UPSC will not be held responsible for any loss.

Exam Day Guidelines

The UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2025 is a strict and highly monitored process. Candidates are advised to follow all rules to avoid disqualification. Some important points include:

  • Do not carry mobile phones inside the venue.
  • Do not attempt to bring banned gadgets, even in switched-off mode.
  • Bring only the items listed in the admit card instructions.
  • Follow the seating plan as directed by exam supervisors.
  • Sign the attendance sheet using a black ballpoint pen only.
  • Carry enough pens in case one stops working during the exam.

The UPSC CSE Mains Exam 2025 will be conducted on August 22, 23, 24, 30, and 31, 2025. On the first day, candidates will appear for the Essay paper. Other General Studies and Optional papers will follow on the scheduled dates.
