Covid vaccine

The government is all set to start the COVID – 19 vaccination drive in the country. The University Grants Commission (UGC) seeks personal intervention of the universities and colleges across the country. It will ensure the successful implementation of the vaccination program.

Prof. Rajnish Jain, Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC) released an official notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellors of all Universities and Principals of all colleges. He mentioned that the vaccine will roll out in a few days. The drive looks forward to the pro-active support of all stakeholders including all the colleges and Universities.

He added that the Universities have a huge network and can support the campaign of vaccination drive. They will play a major role in the vaccination program.

The initial phase will prioritize the Health care workers, front-line workers, people of the age 50 years and above the age of 50 years added with the ones below 50 years but with co-morbid conditions. As the vaccine is available in limited quantity, the rollout is done in phases. The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (NEGVAC) recommended the idea.

The cooperation is looking forward in matters of communication. The Universities are asked to assist in disseminating the information related to the vaccine. In a letter to UGC, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the biggest challenge is to ensure that the 1.3 billion people have their facts correct regarding the vaccine. Added they know about the updates and roll out progress.

Thus, the plan is to make an environment that accepts the vaccine. It can be done through an effective communication action plan. The factually correct information has to be disseminated across all levels i.e., state, district, block, village, and family).
