On Tuesday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued the tentative academic calendar for the first-year University students of UG and PG courses for the academic year 2020-21. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on its twitter handle released the academic calendar 2020-21.
As per UGC academic session calendar, the academic year for the freshers batch will now commence in November, and the delay in the commencement of the session will certainly impact the new academic year as well.
Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the UGC has acknowledged the report of the committee and further approved the guidelines issued by UGC India on the academic calendar for the fresh batch of undergraduate and postgraduate students for the academic year 2020-21.
Pokhriyal further tweeted that students will receive a full return of the admission fee on cancellation made till November.
He asserted that to prevent financial losses being confronted by the parents amid the Covid-19 lockdown and similar factors, a full fee refund will be initiated on account of all the admission cancellation of admission or migration of students, up to 30th November 2020.

On withdrawal or cancellation of admissions up to 31st December 2020, the wholesome fee amount collected from the students will be reimbursed after a deduction of a small amount of not more than Rs. 1000 as the processing charge.
In April, the University Grant Commission issued an alternative academic calendar for Universities with the schedule to reopen colleges by September. However, the delay in the conduct of entrance tests and coronavirus infection rise has shoved the academic session by two months.
ALTERNATIVE ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR CLASSES 9-12 RELEASED
Supreme Court on Tuesday further asked CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) to release the results of Class 12th supplementary exams as soon as possible. Furthermore, SC asked CBSE to coordinate with UGC to help the students who are to apply in colleges in this academic year.
The Apex Court during the hearing asked the UGC not to announce the academic calendar till 24th September but was later allowed to release the calendar.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission has accepted the Report of the Committee and approved the @ugc_india Guidelines on Academic Calendar for the First Year of Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Students of the Universities for the Session 2020-21.
