UGC recovered Rs 30 crore from universities all over the country. It included around Rs 17 crore from Delhi University. Refund of fees for canceled or vice chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar relocated admissions during the 2022-23 academic session. The UGC chief transmitted the statistics and said the recovered portion was paid to 14,443 students.

“Many students come from economically fragile locations. They should have the liberation to enlist in a better university. Students may not have the economic means to do so unless they get a repayment from the university.” Kumar said.

We get numerous queries from students and based on that we talk to the universities. Of course, many universities repay the fees on their own as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. We have to interfere in the case of several universities. Hence, a payment of Rs 12.14 crore have repaid to 832 students who took admitted to central, state, private or deemed universities he added.

The UGC had earlier demanded full fees, comprising all charges. The payment repaid with zero cancellation charges for cancellations or migrations up to October 31 in the year 2022. Institutes are permitted to take away no more than Rs 1,000 as a processing fee.

DU has repaid 13,611 students that are a sum of Rs 16.95 crore. Hence, the UGC has regained a total of Rs 29.10 crore from 14,443 students. Therefore, UGC recovered Rs 30 cr in fee rebates from universities.

Among the criticisms received by the University Grants Commission. 381 were against deemed universities, 243 state universities, 165 private universities, and 26 central varsities.
