University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued the guidelines fro examinations and an academic calender in the view of the COVID-19 on 29 April 2020 and had advised the Varsities and colleges to plan out their further action plan and activities keep in view of the situation and prioritizing the health at the highest ensuring safety and interest of the stakeholders.

A helpline has been set up by the UGC to address the concerns or grievances of the students which arise due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation prevalent, An email has also been created for the same. Keeping this in mind, other steps have also been taken like another new tab of COVID-19 regrading grievances has been created on the Online Students Grievance Portal of UGC which exists on its official website. Students now have the facility of lodging their specific concerns, queries/grievances on the portal which arise out the prevalent pandemic situation. A task force created by UGC monitors all such activities related to the grievances or concerns and is responsible for addressing the queries aptly.

The UGC further clarified that they have received grievances from the students and their parents that several varieties and concerned colleges have insisted for immediate payment of annual/semester examination fee, tuition fee etc. Parents have also reinstated that owing to the financial constraints and enhanced hardships due to the lockown, they are not in a condition to pay the fees.

UGC has requested the colleges and the universities to keep in view this matter associated with payment of annual/semester fee, tuition fee, examination fee, etc. UGC has advised them to deal with the issue sympathetically and also to offer any alternative method for the payment options, if feasible, till the situations prevails and until it becomes normal.
